The winter holiday period is often a time when people gather in the homes of friends and family. Although its great to have festive gatherings they can also lead to ventilation issues within the property due to changes in lifestyle or volume of guests. So, what can you do to prevent issues?

If you know that your property is prone to condensation and you don’t have a PIV (Positive Input Ventilation) Unit or Extract units fitted then it’s worth arranging for one of our Surveyors to attend so that we can look at what type of ventilation system would help prevent moisture build up in your property.

If you do have extract units or PIV units fitted and they are due to be serviced or to have filters changed then its worth calling early to arrange for a service as the run up to Christmas is one of the busiest periods for servicing and installation..
3.
If you have an extractor fan in the kitchen make sure it is turned on whilst you are preparing festive food in order to prevent moisture building up in the kitchen. If you don’t have a fan, then open a window to let moisture escape and keep the kitchen door shut to prevent steam escaping from the kitchen into other rooms.

2.
If you have an extractor fan in the bathroom then make sure it is turned on whilst you are getting ready for festive celebrations, to prevent steam from showers and baths condensing on the walls. If you don’t have a fan, then open windows to allow steam to escape but make sure the bathroom door is closed following showers to prevent the steam escaping from the bathroom into other rooms.

If you have a PIV fitted in your property this should prevent moisture building up in living areas but if not then open windows slightly before guests arrive and make a mental note to wipe up any moisture around window sills, the morning after the party to prevent mould growth.
Now that you have tried to make sure your property is ventilated its time to enjoy the holidays!
