The term ‘woodworm’ is sometimes used loosely to describe woodboring insects. This can lead to myths and misunderstandings about what to expect if you have an infestation and how it can be treated.
Much has been written about excavations to form new basements which have become increasingly popular in some areas in London. Lots of properties have existing basements and that space can be converted to add space to your house. Some basements can be successfully converted to create dry storage space. Whereas others, of a larger size and where you may be wanting to create additional living space, can be designed as such and converted accordingly. Before proceeding with such work, there are numerous factors which should be considered before deciding on conversion works.
The Industrial Revolution resulted in a huge increase of houses built during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 to 1901), which are now a common feature throughout British towns and cities. Typical details, including high ceilings and good-sized rooms make these properties highly attractive to potential buyers. Unfortunately, this type of construction bears some inherent defects.
